About Dhanteras / Dhantrayodashi
What is Dhanteras?
Dhanteras, also known as Dhantrayodashi, marks the beginning of the five-day Diwali festival. Celebrated on the thirteenth lunar day of Krishna Paksha in Kartik month, it is dedicated to Lord Dhanvantari (the god of Ayurveda) and Goddess Lakshmi.
This is considered the most auspicious day for purchasing gold, silver, utensils, and new items. It is believed that buying precious metals on this day brings prosperity and good fortune throughout the year.
Why Dhanteras is Special
Dhanteras celebrates wealth, health, and prosperity. The word 'Dhan' means wealth and 'Teras' means thirteenth. Lord Dhanvantari emerged from the ocean with the elixir of immortality (Amrit) on this day.
