About Onam Festival of Kerala
What is Onam?
Onam is Kerala's grand harvest festival celebrated across 10 days in the Malayalam month of Chingam. It commemorates the homecoming of the legendary King Mahabali, whose reign is considered the golden age of Kerala.
The festival is marked by stunning Pookalam (flower carpets), the magnificent Onasadya feast with 26+ dishes served on banana leaves, exciting Vallam Kali (snake boat races), and the graceful Thiruvathira Kali dance.
